Rahmat Wibowo contrasted Ibrahim Arief (portrayed positively as a patriotic tech leader) with Abigail Aryaputra Sudarman (accused of fabricating credentials and running an unaccredited AI school), using this comparison to criticize the Indonesian tech ecosystem for failing to verify credentials and protect genuine talent.

Just when you think the Indonesian tech
scene couldn't get more ironic.
On one side:
Ibrahim Arief (Ibam) — a battle-tested CTO
and former VP Engineering at Bukalapak . A
guy with real experience scaling unicorns
and building systems that actually work. He
received an offer from Meta London (the
kind of offer most engineers can only dream
of). But he turned it down. Why? Because he
chose to come back to Indonesia and
contribute to the country he loves.
Today, instead of enjoying a high-paying role
in London, he’s facing prison time in the
Chromebook case — as a consultant who
had zero authority over procurement
decisions. A patriot who sacrificed millions
for the homeland, now criminalized.
On the other side:
Abil Sudarman — the self-proclaimed "Al
expert” and founder of ASSAI (Abil Sudarman
School of Artificial intelligence).
On his Linkedin and public profiles he
proudly states:
Graduated from University of London
(AML Computer Science)
Published researcher
Al thought leader, director at KORIKA ,
speaker, etc.
Reality (now exposed):
X only a senior high school graduate
X dropped out of BINUS ONLINE
Zero professional tech employment
history
>< Running an unaccredited "Al school”
while charging students
Two very different stories. One man with
genuine expertise who chose Indonesia and
is now paying the price. Another who built an
entire personal brand and business on
fabricated credentials.
This is not just about two individuals.
This is about the ecosystem we're building
~ Are we verifying credentials properly before
giving platforms, funding, or government
access?
= Why do real talents who sacrifice for the
country get punished, while frauds thrive in
plain sight?
= How many more “Al experts" with fake
University of London degrees are out there
teaching our next generation?
Indonesia deserves better. We have world-
class talent. We don’t need imported
prestige or fabricated CVs. We need
integrity, verification, and protection for
those who actually deliver.
What do you think?
Should Linkedin and tech communities start
demanding proof of education and
experience before someone can position
themselves as an “expert”?
Drop your thoughts below. Let's talk about
this openly.
